Hi – came across your article on BT/Yahoo home page. It’s very interesting, although I feel you’re doing yourself a dis-service with your slogan. I can, do, and will, live quite happily without “organised religion” ever in my life again. Does that mean I don’t have a faith/belief in a form of “supreme being”, “Great Mystery”, (or even a god, or goddess of my own understanding?) in my life..? No. And I gather from what’s happening without need of a Church, or even Minister/Priest for weddings, many absolutely feel the same as I, and indeed yourselves, do. But, your “Good without God” title hits in as though it’s a completely athiestic society. “Humanistic” gives scope for a wider question, although before reading the article on Weddings, I actually thought that the “Humanistic” title just meant a Civil Ceremony. (And yes, I got married in 1977 in a Registry Office. At that time, being a Protestant (by accident of birth!) and marrying a non-practising Jewish guy – there was nowhere else to go – and no inclination to go elsewhere..!). Could I care less whether the Pope visited Scotland/UK or not..? Yes – but only from the aspect of there are many other good ways the public’s money could have been spent rather than on that particular meaningless-to-the-majority event. Of course, I recognise that you’re not saying “Good without (a) God” in your title – my personal reaction may even be that this is an age thing with me now that I’ve reached 60 (Yuk! lol). I just feel that you’re missing out on massive, and I mean absolutely massive, public support by the seeming complete ‘denial’ of a belief system of some sort. It’s just my opinion – and let’s face it, everybody has one..! But, would I ‘join’ you with that “Good without God” title, or even accept a free car sticker..? Nope, sorry to say. Could I suggest any alternative title/slogan that you could/might have. Nope, sad to say. I truly do wish you a lot of luck with your campaign – with kindest regards, Barbara
