Sex and death lie at the poisoned heart of religion

Why invite the pope on a state visit – at a cost of millions in a time of cutbacks – when the vast majority are secular?

A lot of mistakes have been made by the Church in general and the Catholic Church in particular. They people running these Church institutions are just human and as falliable as all human being are. I strongly do no agree most of the setiments expressed on your website. Please come to “third world Africa” and see the wonderfull things God is doing through his servants.

Well, I am not a Catholic, but I don’t think that the fact that the majority are secular (if they are – I’m sure “vast” is an exaggeration) means that there shouldn’t be a stat visit. After all, we’ve had a state visit from the Emir of Kuwait, but we the vast majority aren’t Kuwaiti… It’s about relating to the world.

If pepole want to believe let them. I agree and I dont believe in the church but I believe in a form of God and in angels. In a world full of hate death and pain why attack something that gives hope to billions of people across the world? Instead of arguing over belief structures and pointing out the good and bad in any religion we humans should be putting our efforts into living in peace and saving the world we live on. These kind of websites make me sad.

For such an intelligent and beautiful creature we humans are just plain stupid!

PS I would also like to state that if people followed the churches teaching they wouldnt spread HIV or Aids. The sex trade in the third world are to blame not the church. The issue is married men sleeping around and passing the virus to thier wives and in turn children. If they followed the church to the letter then there woldnt be any sexual contact outside of marriage. There stance on not using condoms I do have an issue with but we cant blame the church for cheating men and women. Even in this country the youth of today dont use condoms and have multiple partners. So again its more about knowledge and education than religion.

“In a world full of hate death and pain why attack something that gives hope to billions of people across the world?”

Hope provides an invisible security to the religiously sound individual. Hate, Pain, & Death are normal in the Bible as they are in today’s society, so Get Used To It.
We (Spiritualists, Agnostics, etc.) don’t care what people believe, but if a “believer” decides to come to this site or many others that dispute religious beliefs and hoaxes for what they are, it’s our right to have such discussions just as it is your right to believe what you want and act upon it.

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
      (Psalm 139:19-22)

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
      –Psalm 116:15

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
      (Romans 8:22)

“2 million Scots are good without God.”
Hmmmm.. I didn’t know God visited Scotland.

All religon is only about control,, No Gods wrote scriptures , men did in order to gain wealth and power over others. The Catholic Church is extreemly wealthy yet still chooses to sponge of the tax-payer to help finance the popes visit. The money wasted on this could be better spent compensating all those who have been sexually abused by members of this organisation. Instead it is spent on self promotion of this discredited organisation.

Hello and good luck to your website!

1)With the money spent on the Pope trip to UK, how many children would we have saved in this world?

2)Why the church has been quietly telling families to shut up when kids have been abused?

3)Why religion(catholic especially) always needs to be associated with Gold, money when the main purpose of it was to help people and not profit from their donations?

4)Finally, does anyone knows why priest are not allowed to marry?
    Of course not!
If a priest starts a family and he dies, his assets/belongings will then be shared between his wife and kids, now if the church wishes to grow and owns more and more lands,it cannot allow that, this is why they refuse the priests to be married, as simple as that! Imagine, you take take of a house all your life, give it value and then give it back to the church at the end, it is great for them no?
This is why this religion is really based on money and it is time for people to realise the truth.

I would really respect the church if:

-The gold was out of the churches and redistributed/exchange for food and given to the poor kids
-If the church was allowing priest to marry, this would lead to less kids abuse.
-If the church stopped protecting pedophiles caught in the net.
-If the pope was going in less luxurious places, planes, boats and cars.

The yes, I would start respecting this religion, but right now, it is a big nono

You may want to read this article on Bloomberg Business Week

      which says

Benedict didn’t take individual personal responsibility Thursday, saying only that the “authority of the church” had failed.

The main U.S. victim’s group dismissed Benedict’s comments as disingenuous, noting that the only real action the Vatican has taken has been to tell bishops to report abuse to police if local laws require them to do so.

“Bishops across the world continue to deliberately choose secrecy and deception over safety and honesty in child sex cases,” said Joelle Casteix of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.
